This is very nice looking stuff. I’ve linked to Processing before as a cool tool and it’s nice to see people doing interesting projects. It is out of Celestial Labs which is a planetarium artwork in progress combining “science, statistical display, and contemporary art by interpreting the mechanical patterns and behaviors of these systems as culturally significant poetics.”
I advocate for a framework to visualize data where appropriate. Laszlo or Macromedia Flex, Processing or some other tools… it would avoid one-off code, which can be fun but expensive in the long run to maintain compared to a known framework. Check out Processing and see if it fits any projects.
